The home price for sellers who use an agent is 32 percent higher than for those who don’t, according to NAR’s 2006 Profile of Home Buyers and Sellers, and of 85% home buyers will likely use a real estate agent again and recommend their agent to friends.

To be a REALTOR®, a real estate agent must abide by a set of professional principles and serve clients fairly. In addition to the Code of Ethics, REALTORS® take additional classes to be knowledgeable about the latest contracts, state and federal laws concerning housing and the latest methods in marketing your home.
According to the 2006 Profile of Home Buyers & Sellers by the NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF REALTORS®, when asked about the benefits provided by an agent, 55 percent of buyers said agents helped them understand the process, 40 percent said their agent pointed out unnoticed features or faults with the property, 37 percent indicated the agent improved their knowledge of the area, 36 percent said agents negotiated better contract terms, 35 percent reported a shortened search process and 29 percent said their agent negotiated a better price. Other benefits mentioned include narrowing or expanding the search area, providing a better list of mortgage lenders and providing a better list of service providers.
Once your home is listed with a REALTOR®, he or she will immediately begin to market your home according to the most appropriate conventions for your community. Your REALTOR® should keep you informed as the marketing process unfolds and as expressions of interest are received. In time, the marketing plan may be modified to reflect buyer reactions and changes in the marketplace. Your REALTORS® will help with negotiations to accept an offer then work with the buyer’s REALTORS® on the inspection process. Finally, your REALTOR® will be with you through the closing to make sure you understand what you are signing.
